Endorsed Candidates

ENDORSEMENT PROCESS – MAYOR and COUNCILLORS

It’s Our City, Inc., a citizens movement, has endorsed the persons listed below based on a process of interviews by our Board, background information, personal history and their views about being able to uphold the following promises:

THE PROMISES

  1. To commit that the City belongs to the citizens of Christchurch. The Council shall operate in an open, transparent and democratically accountable manner that benefits the citizens first and foremost.
  2. Unless legally prohibited to do so, to commit to make public an accounting of each ratepayer dollar spent and to do so in a timely manner.
  3. To require that all Council meetings (public and public-excluded) be audio taped and all votes be recorded.
  4. To acknowledge and actively support Tangata Whenua status of Maori.
  5. To embrace cultural diversity and multiculturalism as a positive influence on the well being of all Christchurch citizens.
  6. To strengthen Community Boards by re-instating Community Board member remuneration to the levels prior to 2007, and by significantly increasing the grant funding under full control of the Community Boards.
  7. To reinstate at least six standing committees with elected councillors as Chairs, including a finance committee
  8. To assure there is clear separation and proper oversight between CCC and CCHL.

All of those who we have endorsed have signed up to support these Promises and as a result we are working with these candidates and incumbents to make sure they are elected. Ella ‘s presence in our movement also has injected much needed humour.  She is insistent we don’t work without laughter and most importantly that we laugh at ourselves.

Lastly, she is fond of reminding us of her favourite quote: : “There is a reason nature gave us one mouth and two ears”
